Description
Positioned on the posterolateral forearm, the extensor carpi radialis brevis lies deep to the extensor carpi radialis longus and just lateral to the extensor digitorum as it courses distally toward the dorsum of the wrist. Proximally, its fibers arise from the lateral epicondyle of the humerus via the common extensor tendon, with the radial head and capitulum region providing nearby bony context at the elbow. The muscle belly tapers into a tendon that passes posterior to the radiocarpal joint and continues to the base of the third metacarpal on the dorsal aspect of the hand, staying on the radial (lateral) side relative to the ulnar shaft.
