Description
Radiating from the distal lower limbs, superficial and deep lymphatic vessels ascend along the medial leg and thigh toward the popliteal and inguinal lymph nodes, then continue as iliac trunks into the lumbar (para aortic) nodal chain. Superiorly, the cisterna chyli transitions into the thoracic duct, which climbs in the posterior mediastinal corridor and terminates at the left venous angle near the junction of the internal jugular and subclavian veins. Along the trunk, axillary, parasternal, and abdominal wall pathways sit lateral and anterior to the central duct, while cervical nodes cluster superiorly at the neck.
