Rendered in a lateral (side) view of an adult male body, green lymphatic vessels track superficially and deeply from the hand and forearm through the cubital and axillary lymph nodes, then continue medially toward the thoracic duct and right lymphatic duct at the root of the neck. Along the trunk, lymphatics course anterior and posterior to the rib cage, with nodal groups implied in the cervical chain, mediastinum, and along the abdominal wall before converging toward the cisterna chyli. Distal lower-limb drainage follows medial channels from the foot and leg to popliteal and inguinal nodes, then ascends with the iliac vessels. Blue neural elements overlay the same silhouette, including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves, providing a spatial foil for the green lymphatic pathways. Side perspective matters when you need to teach or plan around longitudinal drainage, because lymphatic collectors are oriented proximodistally and often travel with superficial veins, while key nodal basins sit in predictable inflection points at the axilla and groin. Clinical staging for melanoma and breast cancer hinges on these basins, and sentinel lymph node biopsy relies on the fact that cutaneous lymphatics from the upper limb and trunk frequently converge on level I and II axillary nodes before entering the subclavian lymphatic trunk. Edema patterns follow this anatomy. So do complications after node dissection or radiotherapy.
