Description
Oblique radiographic styling outlines the tibia and fibula proximally, then the tarsus, metatarsals, and phalanges distally, with the dorsal arch and toe rays readable through semi-transparent blue shading. Superficial lymphatic vessels course in the subcutaneous plane over the dorsum of the foot, tracking anterior to the malleolar region before turning proximally along the anteromedial lower leg. Small collecting channels converge from the dorsal digital and metatarsal territories into larger trunks, with nodal stations indicated along expected pathways toward the popliteal and inguinal basins. Orientation stays true to anatomical position. Dorsal foot lymphatics matter because this surface drains a large share of the skin envelope involved in infections and postoperative wound issues, and because edema patterns often reflect obstruction along these superficial collectors. Cellulitis, erysipelas, and melanoma of the dorsum commonly metastasize first to superficial inguinal nodes, while lateral foot and posterolateral ankle pathways can communicate toward popliteal nodes, a pitfall during nodal staging and sentinel lymph node mapping.
