Description
Running vertically on either side of the linea alba, the paired rectus abdominis muscles are rendered beneath a semi-transparent male integument, extending superiorly toward the costal cartilages of ribs 5 to 7 and inferiorly to the pubic crest and pubic symphysis. Tendinous intersections segment the muscle bellies in a transverse pattern, creating the familiar stacked appearance across the anterior abdominal wall. Laterally, the rectus abdominis margins imply the adjacent aponeurotic contributions of the external oblique, internal oblique, and transversus abdominis that form the rectus sheath.
