Positioned on the lateral aspect of each cerebral hemisphere, the gyrus temporalis medius (middle temporal gyrus) lies inferior to the sulcus temporalis superior and superior to the sulcus temporalis inferior, forming an intermediate temporal convolution that can still be appreciated from a posterior viewpoint as the temporal lobe wraps around toward the occipital pole. The posterior ends of the temporal gyri approach the temporo-occipital transition, where gyral patterns become tighter and more variable between hemispheres. In this posterior rendering the cerebellum sits inferior to the occipital lobes, separated from the cerebrum by the transverse fissure. Midline separation of left and right hemispheres remains clear.
