Caput of the proximal phalanx of a toe occupies the distal end of the first phalanx, its convex articular surface facing inferiorly and distally toward the next phalanx to form the interphalangeal articulation. From this lateral perspective, the dorsal aspect of the head aligns with the extensor tendon route, while the plantar margin sits closer to the fibrocartilaginous plantar plate and flexor tendon sheath. The metaphyseal flare proximal to the head transitions into the diaphysis, and the cortical contour is easy to follow along the dorsal and plantar borders. Joint-level anatomy is the focus.
