Description
Running along the anterior aspect of the male crus, the superficial venous channels of the dorsum of the foot and lower leg course superiorly over the tibial crest, while paired deep venae comitantes accompany the anterior tibial artery along the interosseous membrane between tibia and fibula. Medially, the great saphenous vein tracks anterior to the medial malleolus and ascends along the medial tibial border, while more central deep vessels converge proximally toward the popliteal vein behind the knee. Osseous landmarks, including the patella, tibia, fibula, and the tarsals and metatarsals, provide orientation for the venous trajectories. Bony alignment stays readable. An anterior perspective matters because it clarifies what can and cannot be attributed to the anterior tibial venous system versus the saphenous territory when you are localizing edema, varicosities, or post-thrombotic change across the shin.
