Internal Intercostals

Description

Posterior thoracic anatomy is presented on a male skeletal framework, with the internal intercostal muscles highlighted in red within the intercostal spaces between adjacent costae. Along the back, the ribs curve laterally from the thoracic vertebrae, and the intercostal slips occupy the spaces from the rib angles toward the costal cartilages, lying deep to the external intercostal layer. Medially, their attachments approach the costovertebral region, while laterally they follow the rib contours toward the axillary line. Bony landmarks, including the thoracic spine, rib angles, and posterior arches, orient the viewer to segmental levels.
