Description
Semi-transparent rendering of the adult male encephalon in lateral profile emphasizes the left cerebral hemisphere, with cortical gyri and sulci of the telencephalon visible beneath a superimposed vascular tree. The frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital lobes can be inferred by their surface contours, while the cerebellum sits posteroinferior to the occipital pole and the brainstem descends inferiorly toward the cervical spinal cord. Red-highlighted vessels trace along the lateral convexity, with the middle cerebral artery coursing laterally within the Sylvian fissure and branching over the opercular and temporal surfaces, while more superior branches suggest anterior cerebral territory near the superior margin. Lateral vascular anatomy is where ischemic stroke patterns become teachable at a glance. Middle cerebral artery occlusion produces a cortical infarct distribution that maps cleanly onto this view, linking arterial branches to expected deficits such as contralateral face and upper limb weakness, aphasia in the dominant hemisphere, or hemispatial neglect on the nondominant side.
