Description
Anterior full-body vasculature is rendered in a male figure, with the heart centered in the mediastinum and major arterial trunks coursing superiorly into the neck and laterally into the upper limbs while the aorta descends inferiorly through the thorax and abdomen. From the aortic arch, the brachiocephalic trunk, left common carotid, and left subclavian arteries rise toward the head and shoulder girdle, while paired venous pathways track back medially toward the superior vena cava. Inferiorly, the abdominal aorta bifurcates into the common iliac arteries, continuing distally as femoral and tibial vessels, mirrored by the inferior vena cava receiving the common iliac veins and the long superficial channels of the lower limb. Color coding differentiates arteries (red) from veins (blue). Clinically, this type of whole-body map helps when teaching where hemorrhage control and vascular access actually occur relative to the central circulation: the femoral artery and vein lie just inferior to the inguinal ligament, the carotids run anterolateral in the neck, and the subclavian vessels pass under the clavicle where catheter and trauma considerations converge. Seeing both systems together clarifies common exam and imaging correlations, such as aortic aneurysm and dissection along the thoracoabdominal aorta, venous thromboembolism arising in the deep veins of the calf and propagating proximally, and the hemodynamic consequences when venous return to the right atrium is obstructed.
