Description
Anterior full-body anatomy is rendered with superficial muscles layered over key bony landmarks of an adult African male. Cranially, the frontal region and mandible provide attachment context for facial musculature, while the sternocleidomastoid descends obliquely to the manubrium and medial clavicle, framing the anterior neck as the trapezius sweeps posterolaterally toward the shoulder. Across the thorax, pectoralis major spans from sternum and clavicle to the humerus, lying superficial to costal contours and intercostal spaces, and the rectus abdominis runs vertically on either side of the linea alba from pubis to costal cartilages. Distally, the biceps brachii occupies the anterior arm with forearm flexor masses tapering into tendons at the wrist, while the quadriceps femoris dominates the anterior thigh and converges into the quadriceps tendon, patella, and patellar ligament over the knee to the tibial tuberosity. Clear landmarks. For teaching surface anatomy, few views outperform a true anterior stance because it ties muscle bellies to palpable skeletal reference points: clavicle, sternum, costal margin, anterior superior iliac spine, patella, and tibial crest. That relationship matters clinically when localizing pain or planning incisions, for example when tracking a quadriceps tendon rupture versus a patellar tendon rupture, or when using the anterior thigh as a donor site for an anterolateral thigh flap where the tensor fasciae latae and iliotibial tract relate laterally to the quadriceps compartment. Fiber direction and tendon continuity also support biomechanics discussions, from shoulder adduction by pectoralis major to ankle dorsiflexion by tibialis anterior during gait.
