Seen from a posterior perspective, the obturator externus occupies the inferolateral aspect of the male pelvis, spanning from the external surface of the obturator membrane and adjacent pubic and ischial rami toward the proximal femur. Its fibers converge laterally beneath the acetabulum to form a tendon that passes posterior to the femoral neck and blends into the trochanteric fossa on the medial surface of the greater trochanter. Superiorly, the sacrum sits midline between the iliac blades, while the femoral heads lie lateral to the pelvic ring at the acetabula. Deep position. Clear relationships.
