Posteriorly oriented, the parietal bone (os parietale) forms the dominant expanse of the skullcap (calvaria), meeting its contralateral partner at the midline along the sagittal suture. Superolaterally, the paired parietals curve toward the parietal eminence, while inferior margins descend toward the squamous region where the parietal would articulate with the temporal bone at the squamous suture. The lambdoid suture typically frames the posteroinferior border against the occipital bone, and parietal foramina, when present, lie near the posterior third of the sagittal suture. Clean landmarks. For teaching cranial sutures, a posterior view is where the sagittal and lambdoid sutures read most clearly as a continuous map, and where you can discuss normal interdigitation versus diastasis.
