Description
Viewed in strict lateral profile, the male skull is presented as an integrated cranial vault and facial skeleton, with the frontal bone anteriorly meeting the parietal bone at the coronal suture and the parietal meeting the occipital at the lambdoid suture posteriorly. Inferior to the squamous temporal bone, the zygomatic bone projects anteriorly to join the temporal process, forming the zygomatic arch that bridges over the infratemporal region. The mandible sits inferior and anterior to the cranial base, its ramus rising to the condylar process to articulate with the mandibular fossa of the temporal bone at the temporomandibular joint, while the mandibular angle and mental protuberance define the posterior and anterior contour of the lower face. Dentition is visible along the maxillary and mandibular alveolar processes. Clear landmarks.
