Description
Anterior abdominal anatomy is presented on an adult Black female figure in upright anatomical position, with the small intestine highlighted as coiled jejunum and ileum occupying the central and inferior abdomen. Jejunal loops sit predominantly in the left upper and mid abdomen, while ileal loops trend inferiorly and to the right, approaching the ileocecal region. The surrounding large intestine frames the small bowel peripherally, with the ascending colon on the subject’s right, transverse colon superiorly, and descending colon on the left, providing clear medial to lateral relationships. Mesenteric attachment is implied by the ordered clustering of loops rather than a random tangle. Jejunum and ileum matter because most clinically meaningful small bowel disease localizes to one segment or the other, and location drives both imaging interpretation and management. Crohn disease often targets terminal ileum, so right lower quadrant pain, aphthous ulcers, strictures, and enteroenteric fistulas map anatomically to the distal coils shown near the cecum.
