Description
Rendered in lateral profile within a transparent adult male body, the cranial cavity contains the brain (cerebrum with visible gyri and sulci) continuous with the brainstem and cervical spinal cord. Posterior to the pharyngeal airway and anterior to the occipital squama, the cord descends through the vertebral canal formed by the cervical vertebrae, with the dentition, mandible, maxilla, zygomatic bone, and orbital margin establishing anterior facial landmarks. At the mid cervical level the spinal cord widens into the cervical enlargement, and segmental spinal nerves exit laterally through the intervertebral foramina on their course toward the upper limb.
