Description
Oriented in anterior anatomical position, the spleen appears as an elongated, convex organ with its diaphragmatic surface facing forward and its visceral surface turned posteriorly toward the stomach, left kidney, and tail of the pancreas. Along the medial border, fine splenic nerve fibers converge toward the splenic hilum, then distribute beneath the splenic capsule as a branching plexus. Their course logically parallels the splenic artery and vein within the splenorenal (lienorenal) ligament, with fibers entering and exiting near the hilum rather than across the smooth diaphragmatic surface. Color contrast emphasizes the neural arborization against the dark purple splenic parenchyma.
