Presented from a posterior perspective of the male knee, the femoral condyles frame the intercondylar fossa where the cruciate ligaments normally cross. The posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) is shown disrupted near its femoral attachment on the medial femoral condyle, while the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), typically running from the anterior intercondylar area of the tibia to the posteromedial aspect of the lateral femoral condyle, is also torn with loss of its oblique fiber continuity. Posterior to these structures, the posterior joint capsule and synovial recesses sit in front of the popliteal fat and the expected course of the popliteal neurovascular bundle.
