Description
Centered in the proximal medial thigh, the adductor brevis arises from the body of the pubis and inferior pubic ramus and runs inferolaterally to the proximal femur, inserting along the pectineal line and the proximal linea aspera. Its muscle belly sits deep to adductor longus and anterior to adductor magnus, with pectineus positioned more superior and lateral near the femoral triangle. Posteriorly, the adductor brevis relates to the obturator externus near the obturator foramen, while the femoral shaft and knee joint align distally in the same musculoskeletal field. Small but telling. Adductor brevis anatomy matters when you need to separate true adductor strains from hip joint or pubic symphysis pathology, because pain localizes near the pubic origin and can be reproduced with resisted adduction and flexion. The obturator nerve typically supplies this muscle, so mapping its position relative to the anterior and posterior branches helps explain selective weakness after pelvic surgery, obturator nerve entrapment, or targeted nerve blocks for medial thigh pain.
