Description
Medial thigh anatomy is centered on the adductor brevis, a short triangular muscle arising from the body and inferior ramus of the pubis and passing inferolaterally to the proximal linea aspera and pectineal line of the femur. Superficial to it sits the adductor longus, while the pectineus lies anterosuperior, forming the anterior margin of the adductor compartment near the pubic crest and superior pubic ramus. Proximally, the muscle belly nests just inferior to the acetabulum and anterior to the adductor magnus, with its distal fibers tracking toward the femoral shaft. Deep and compact. Understanding the adductor brevis in relation to adductor longus and pectineus matters when you are teaching compartmental anatomy of the thigh or tracing medial hip pain patterns, since this muscle often becomes involved in athletic groin strains and can be difficult to isolate on palpation or ultrasound because it sits deep to adductor longus. Its proximal attachment at the pubic body also places it near the obturator neurovascular bundle, and its position helps explain why obturator nerve irritation can present as medial thigh pain with weakness in hip adduction.
