Description
Centered in the medial compartment of the male thigh, the adductor brevis lies deep to adductor longus and anterior to the adductor magnus, spanning from the body and inferior ramus of the pubis to the proximal linea aspera of the femur. Its short, thick belly sits inferior to the pectineus and medial to the proximal femoral shaft, with gracilis running more superficially along the most medial border of the thigh. Proximally, the pubic symphysis and adjacent pubic rami frame the muscle’s origin; distally, the insertion blends toward the midline ridge of the posterior femur. Small but consequential. Medial visualization of adductor brevis matters because it occupies the corridor where the anterior and posterior divisions of the obturator nerve course between adductor longus, brevis, and magnus, a relationship that helps explain adductor weakness and medial thigh sensory symptoms after pelvic surgery or obturator nerve block. For sports medicine, the muscle often shares the injury pattern labeled adductor strain, yet its deeper position can make it a missed pain generator when adductor longus is non-tender and imaging shows edema near the proximal femoral attachment.
