Description

Centered on the external nasal dorsum in an anterior facial view, the bridge spans superiorly from the nasion region down to the rhinion at the osseocartilaginous junction, where the paired nasal bones meet the upper lateral cartilages. A blue nasal strip lies transversely over the mid dorsum, crossing both lateral nasal sidewalls just inferior to the bony vault. Inferior to this level, the dorsum continues toward the tip-defining points and the alar cartilages, although the emphasis remains on the bridge and upper third of the external nose. Clinically, this angle clarifies where adhesive nasal dilator strips exert their effect: they stiffen the lateral nasal wall and help resist inspiratory collapse at the nasal valve area, a common contributor to perceived nasal obstruction during exercise or sleep. Placement matters, and the strip positioned too superiorly over the nasal bones will do little for valve narrowing, while placement centered over the upper lateral cartilage region can improve airflow subjectively in patients with dynamic sidewall collapse. Rhinion is a useful landmark here. It marks the transition that surgeons respect during rhinoplasty and osteotomy planning to avoid destabilizing the middle vault. Use this rendering in ENT teaching sessions on nasal valve anatomy, sports medicine or sleep clinic patient education on external nasal dilators, and medical device packaging or instructions that require accurate, front-facing placement guidance on darker skin tones. It also suits facial anatomy modules that introduce surface landmarks of the nasal bridge in diverse populations. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
