Description

Front-facing nasal surface anatomy is presented with the nasal dorsum (nasal ridge) forming the midline contour from nasion to pronasale, flanked laterally by the right and left nasal sidewalls. Superiorly, the dorsum continues into the root of the nose at the frontonasal junction; inferiorly it transitions toward the tip and the columellar region, with the alar margins curving laterally toward the nasolabial sulci. Bony support lies proximally beneath the upper dorsum (nasal bones and frontal process of the maxilla), while the distal third is shaped by the upper and lower lateral cartilages. Midline symmetry is the main organizing feature. That anterior perspective matters when you need to judge dorsal aesthetic lines and the width relationships between the bony vault, middle vault, and tip-defining points. Subtle irregularities after nasal fracture, dorsal hump reduction, or cartilage grafting often declare themselves head-on as asymmetry, an inverted V deformity from middle vault collapse, or deviation that shifts the apparent dorsal ridge away from the facial midline. Preoperative documentation for rhinoplasty and post-reduction follow-up both rely on a consistent frontal nasal dorsum view. Clear and unforgiving. Use this asset for facial anatomy and surface anatomy modules, otolaryngology and plastic surgery teaching files, and medical publishing content covering rhinoplasty planning, nasal trauma assessment, and cosmetic outcomes reporting. It also fits clinical brochures or consent materials where patients need a straightforward, anterior nasal reference without distracting background anatomy. Anatomical accuracy verified by SciePro's Medical Advisory Board.
