Description
Oriented to the lateral posterior neck of an adult male, the semispinalis capitis is presented as a deep paraspinal muscle lying posterior to the cervical vertebrae and ascending superomedially to the occipital bone. Superficial layers such as splenius capitis and the posterior border of sternocleidomastoid are positioned more laterally and anteriorly, framing the semispinalis capitis as it courses from the lower cervical and upper thoracic spinous processes toward its cranial insertion between the nuchal lines. The cervical spine is rendered with clear vertebral bodies and spinous processes, with the upper thorax and shoulder girdle (scapulae, clavicles, and adjacent ribs) providing bony context for posture and muscle leverage.
