Description
Shown in right lateral profile, the female torso is rendered with the liver emphasized in the right upper quadrant, lying immediately inferior to the right hemidiaphragm and deep to the lower ribs. The right lobe occupies the more lateral and superior position beneath the right breast, while the left lobe extends anteromedially toward the epigastrium. The organ’s diaphragmatic surface faces superoposteriorly toward the thoracic cavity, and its visceral (inferior) surface is oriented inferomedially toward the stomach, duodenum, and transverse colon. Proximity to the costal margin is clear. A side-profile rendering is the most direct way to teach where the liver sits relative to the anterior chest wall, diaphragm, and rib cage, and it maps cleanly onto clinical palpation of hepatomegaly at the right costal margin.
