Description
Posterior full-body female skeleton is presented from the cranium to the phalanges, with the occipital bone and posterior calvaria superior to the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae and continuous inferiorly with the sacrum and coccyx. Laterally, the scapulae overlie the posterior thoracic cage, their spines and medial borders framing the rib angles as the ribs curve anterolaterally from the thoracic vertebrae. Distal to the pectoral girdle, the humeri articulate at the elbow with ulnae and radii, and the carpal bones, metacarpals, and phalanges align into the hands; inferiorly, the paired os coxae (ilium, ischium, pubis) form the pelvic ring around the sacrum, continuing into femora, patellae, tibiae, fibulae, and the tarsals, metatarsals, and toe phalanges of the feet. A posterior perspective matters because it clarifies midline alignment and posterior bony landmarks that clinicians palpate and surgeons reference: spinous processes, scapular position relative to the thorax, and the relationship of the iliac crests to the L4 vertebral level. This is the view most relevant to teaching scoliosis assessment, thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis patterns, and leg-length or pelvic obliquity concepts, where subtle asymmetry is judged against the vertebral column and pelvic brim. It also supports discussion of common fracture and degenerative sites, including vertebral compression fractures, sacral insufficiency fractures, and distal radius fractures, in the context of female osteoporosis risk.
