Description
Posteriorly, the adult female skeleton is organized around the vertebral column, with the occipital bone of the cranium superiorly and the sacrum and coccyx inferiorly, forming a continuous midline axis. Thoracic vertebrae articulate with the ribs at the costovertebral and costotransverse joints, so the dorsal rib cage arcs laterally from the spine while the scapulae rest superficially over the posterior thoracic wall.
