Description
Posterior body contour overlays the axial and appendicular skeleton of an adult female, aligning surface form with osseous landmarks. Along the midline, the vertebral column runs from the cervical region through the thoracic and lumbar vertebrae to the sacrum, with the ribs curving laterally from the thoracic spine and the scapulae lying posterolateral to the rib cage. Inferiorly, the pelvic girdle is prominent with the iliac crests flanking the sacrum, while the femora descend from the acetabula into the thighs; the tibiae sit medially and the fibulae laterally in the legs, continuing distally toward the ankles and feet. Upper extremity bones are visible in continuity from the scapulohumeral region into the humeri and forearms, with the hand skeleton faintly outlined at the distal end. A posterior, semi-transparent X-ray style view matters when teaching how palpable landmarks map to deeper structures, because many clinical exams are performed from the back with the patient standing in anatomical position.
