Description
Posterior torso anatomy is rendered with the urinary tract overlaid in situ in an elderly Black male. The paired kidneys lie retroperitoneally on either side of the vertebral column, with the right kidney positioned slightly inferior to the left, and each renal pelvis narrowing into a ureter that descends anteromedial to the psoas region toward the pelvic cavity. Inferiorly, the ureters converge on the urinary bladder in the midline of the lesser pelvis, with a short proximal segment of urethra implied at the bladder neck. Skin, flank contours, and the lumbosacral region provide surface context for the deeper organs. A posterior perspective clarifies where renal pain localizes and why it often refers to the costovertebral angle rather than the lower abdomen. It also frames common age-associated clinical problems: ureteric calculi can obstruct at the ureteropelvic junction, pelvic brim, or ureterovesical junction, producing flank-to-groin colic as the ureter crosses into the pelvis. Bladder outlet obstruction from benign prostatic hyperplasia is not directly shown, but the downstream consequence, bladder distension with upper tract dilation (hydroureter, hydronephrosis), is easier to teach when the kidneys, ureters, and bladder are visualized as a continuous conduit.
