Description
Lateral soft tissues of the male proximal forearm are rendered with a semi-transparent dermal layer, letting you track the supinator as a deep, obliquely oriented sleeve wrapping from the lateral epicondyle and supinator crest of the ulna around the proximal radius. Just anterior and superficial to this region, the biceps brachii tendon can be followed to its insertion on the radial tuberosity, with the tendon’s distal course lying medial to the radial head before turning toward the proximal radius. Extensor compartment contours along the lateral forearm form a superficial frame, while the supinator occupies the posterolateral plane around the radial neck. Deep anatomy, made legible. Supinator matters because it is both a primary supinator in slow, unresisted rotation and a common site of entrapment for the posterior interosseous nerve as it passes through the supinator’s fibrous proximal edge (the arcade of Frohse), a well known pain generator in radial tunnel syndrome and a surgical target in decompression. The lateral perspective clarifies how biceps-driven supination and supinator-driven supination differ biomechanically, and why tenderness can localize distal to the lateral epicondyle rather than at the radiocapitellar joint.
