Description
Shown in left lateral profile, the supraorbital vein ascends within the forehead and crosses the superior orbital rim near the supraorbital notch or foramen, traveling in close company with the supraorbital artery in the superficial tissues deep to the skin and superficial to the frontalis. Inferiorly, the vessel tracks toward the superomedial orbit, where it continues as part of the ophthalmic venous outflow, while posterior and lateral facial layers frame it with the temporalis, orbicularis oculi, and adjacent scalp musculature. Arterial-red and venous-blue coding clarifies the vessel pair as they course anterior to the bony orbital margin. For teaching regional venous pathways, few landmarks are as practical as the supraorbital rim.
