Seen from the dorsal (posterior) aspect, the hand and wrist are rendered with the metacarpals and phalanges as bony landmarks and a red arterial tree coursing superficially across the dorsum. Dorsal carpal branches from the radial and ulnar arteries contribute to the dorsal carpal arch over the proximal carpus, giving rise to dorsal metacarpal arteries that run distally in the intermetacarpal spaces and divide into dorsal digital arteries along the sides of the fingers. Blue dorsal venous channels parallel the arterial paths more loosely, converging proximally toward the dorsal venous network over the metacarpals.
