Description
Posterior lower limbs are rendered with the arterial tree overlaid from the gluteal region to the plantar feet, following the course of the femoral artery into the popliteal artery within the popliteal fossa. Distally, the popliteal artery gives rise to the posterior tibial trunk, descending deep to the soleus along the posterior compartment of the leg, while the fibular (peroneal) artery tracks laterally toward the fibula and the anterior tibial artery passes anteriorly through the interosseous membrane. At the ankle, the posterior tibial artery runs posterior to the medial malleolus and continues as the medial and lateral plantar arteries into the sole. Big vessel. Clear relationships.
