Presented from a posterior abdominal perspective, the superior suprarenal arteries arise as small paired branches from the inferior phrenic arteries and course inferiorly and laterally to the superomedial aspect of each suprarenal (adrenal) gland. Both glands cap the superior poles of the kidneys, with the right lying slightly more superior and medial relative to the upper pole of the right kidney and the left sitting closer to the medial border of the left kidney. Midline orientation is anchored by the abdominal aorta, with the inferior vena cava positioned to its right, while periarterial autonomic nerves form fine yellow plexiform strands around the proximal vessels.
