Oriented from a posterior perspective, the illustration centers on the proximal tibiofibular (superior tibiofibular) joint between the fibular head laterally and the lateral condyle of the tibia medially, with the distal femur positioned superior to the tibial plateau. Fine articular branches course toward the posterior aspect of the joint capsule near the fibular neck, where the common fibular (peroneal) nerve wraps from posterior to lateral and typically gives off small capsular twigs. Articular cartilage is rendered on the opposing joint surfaces. Small nerves dominate the field.
