Description
Habenular complex crowns the dorsal aspect of the epithalamus in this posterior view, positioned superior to the tectum of the midbrain and immediately anterior to the pineal gland. Medial and lateral habenular nuclei form paired elevations flanking the midline, separated by the habenular commissure and bordered laterally by the stria medullaris thalami as it approaches the habenula from the rostral thalamus. Inferiorly, the junction of diencephalon and midbrain is readable by the relationship between the habenula, the posterior commissure region, and the superior colliculi. Small structure, high yield.
