Description
Habenular nuclei occupy the habenular trigone on the dorsomedial aspect of the diencephalon, perched superior to the thalamus at the posterior roofline of the third ventricle. From a dorsal perspective, the paired habenulae sit medial to the pulvinar region, just anterior to the pineal recess and near the posterior commissure as the diencephalon transitions caudally toward the rostral midbrain. The stria medullaris thalami approaches each habenula from an anterosuperior direction along the thalamic surface, while the habenular commissure bridges left and right across the midline. Small structure, big influence.
