Description
Anterior anatomy of the shoulder girdle is presented with the clavicle spanning superomedially from the manubrial region toward the acromion, where it meets the scapula at the acromioclavicular joint. Inferior to that arch, the proximal humerus forms the glenohumeral joint, with the humeral head oriented medially and the greater tubercle lying lateral under the anterior deltoid. Superficial muscle mass includes the deltoid capping the lateral shoulder, biceps brachii running along the anterior arm, and triceps brachii visible laterally and posteriorly at the proximal humerus. Deeper landmarks implied by the rotator cuff emphasis include the subscapularis tendon crossing anterior to the joint toward the lesser tubercle and the supraspinatus tendon passing superiorly beneath the acromion. This anterior perspective matters when teaching subacromial mechanics, because the acromion, coracoacromial arch, and the supraspinatus outlet define the space where impingement and rotator cuff tendinopathy often begin. It also supports surgical orientation for deltopectoral approaches, where the interval between deltoid and pectoralis major leads to the bicipital (intertubercular) groove, long head of biceps, and the anterior capsule.
