Running along the inferolateral margin of the external nose, the anterior dilator naris muscle appears as a slender, superficial slip adjacent to the alar cartilage and the rim of the naris. Medial to it, fibers of nasalis (alar part) and the more midline depressor septi nasi region blend toward the nasal tip, while superiorly the transverse part of nasalis spans the dorsum over the upper lateral cartilages. Lateral facial landmarks frame the field, including orbicularis oculi around the palpebral fissure, zygomaticus major and minor coursing inferomedially toward the oral commissure, and buccinator deep to the cheek.
