Description
Prominently centered in the anterior lower leg, the tibia (shinbone) is shown as the larger, medial long bone with a transverse midshaft fracture and subtle displacement, while the fibula runs parallel on the lateral side and remains intact. Proximally, the tibial plateau sits inferior to the femoral condyles, and the patella lies anterior to the distal femur at the knee. Distally, the tibia widens toward the ankle mortise, articulating with the talus and neighboring tarsal bones, with the fibula forming the lateral malleolar component. Mid-diaphyseal tibial fractures are common after direct blow or torsional loading, and the anterior view makes varus or valgus alignment and translational displacement easier to appreciate when the fibula is unbroken.
