Arising from the left inferior lobar bronchus, the common basal segmental bronchus is rendered in posterior orientation as it descends into the lower lobe, giving rise to its medial and lateral lower divisions in the basal pyramid. Branching points for the segmental bronchi to the superior segment (B6) and the basal segments (B7 to B10, with B7 often reduced or absent on the left) sit inferior to the hilum and posterior to the pulmonary artery, mirroring the typical posterior predominance of lower lobe airway anatomy.
