Presented in an upright anterior (frontal) orientation, the male skeleton is overlaid with the peripheral nervous system highlighted in yellow, allowing the cranial nerves to be traced from the cranial base into the face and neck while the paired spinal nerves emerge segmentally from the vertebral column. Cervical nerves form the brachial plexus lateral to the cervical spine and project into the upper limb along the humerus, radius, and ulna, continuing distally into the palmar digital branches of the hand. Inferiorly, lumbar and sacral ventral rami converge into the lumbosacral plexus within the pelvis, with major trunks descending anteriorly through the thigh and leg to the dorsum and plantar surface of the foot. Segmental symmetry and distal arborization are easy to read. For teaching, this whole-body nerve map clarifies how a central axis (brain and spinal cord) distributes function through named peripheral pathways, and why lesions localize differently at the root, plexus, or terminal nerve level. Radiculopathy from cervical or lumbar disc herniation produces dermatomal pain patterns, while brachial plexus traction injuries and lumbosacral plexopathies create broader deficits that cross single-nerve territories. The anterior view also supports preoperative planning discussions around common iatrogenic risks, such as injury to the common fibular (peroneal) nerve at the fibular neck or the median nerve in the forearm and wrist. Pattern recognition matters. Use this artwork in gross anatomy and neuroanatomy courses when introducing spinal nerve organization, dermatomes and myotomes, or the relationship between skeletal landmarks and peripheral nerve trajectories.
