Description
Posterior trunk musculature of an adult African male is rendered in layered detail, with trapezius spanning the nuchal region and upper thoracic spine to the acromion and scapular spine, and latissimus dorsi sweeping inferolaterally from the thoracolumbar fascia toward the humerus. Along the medial border of the scapula, rhomboid major and minor sit deep to trapezius, while the infraspinatus fills the infraspinous fossa and the teres minor and teres major border it inferiorly, converging toward the proximal humerus. Paraspinally, the erector spinae columns (iliocostalis, longissimus, spinalis) run longitudinally adjacent to the spinous processes, with vertebral landmarks implied beneath the fascia and muscle bellies; lateral abdominal wall contributions from external oblique appear at the flanks. Surface anatomy and fiber direction matter here.
