Anteriorly, the right pulmonary artery is followed as it courses laterally from the pulmonary trunk and gives off the anterior segmental artery to the right upper lobe (A3). That segmental branch runs anterolaterally toward the superior lobe parenchyma, typically traveling with the anterior segmental bronchus, while the pulmonary veins lie more inferior and anterior as they converge on the left atrium. Proximal great vessels remain in view, including the ascending aorta, superior vena cava, and the right atrium and ventricle in their usual anterior relations. Clear color separation distinguishes arterial from venous channels. Segmental pulmonary arterial anatomy matters when you need to match a lesion to a bronchopulmonary segment and plan a segmentectomy rather than a lobectomy, and the A3 branch is a frequent landmark in right upper lobe resections.
