Description
Running deep along the posterior tibia, the flexor digitorum longus (FDL) is presented in lateral profile from the distal femur through the foot, with the tibia anterior to the fibula and the talus seated between the tibial plafond and calcaneus at the ankle. The FDL muscle belly occupies the deep posterior compartment, lying posterior to the tibial shaft and medial to the fibula, then tapering into its tendon as it descends toward the ankle and plantar foot.
