Oriented in anatomical position with the dorsum of the hand facing the viewer, this anteriorly referenced view tracks superficial lymphatic vessels arising from the digits and converging over the metacarpus toward the carpus and distal forearm. Fine collecting channels run proximally along the radial and ulnar margins, mirroring the venous pattern over the dorsal venous network before continuing superiorly toward the forearm lymphatic collectors. No deep palmar lymphatics are emphasized in this perspective. Small-caliber vessels dominate. Dorsal hand lymphatic mapping matters when you plan incisions, flaps, or lymphatic reconstruction, because transection of superficial collectors at the wrist or over the metacarpals can produce persistent dorsal hand edema and delayed wound healing.
