Description
Anterior orientation frames the male peritoneum as a continuous serous membrane lining the abdominopelvic cavity, with parietal peritoneum reflected from the inner surface of the anterior abdominal wall onto the viscera as visceral peritoneum. Superiorly, peritoneal reflections would be expected around the liver and stomach, continuing inferiorly over the small intestine and transverse and sigmoid colon, with the greater omentum draping anterior to the intestinal loops. Midline continuity around the umbilical region helps establish medial versus lateral peritoneal recesses, while inferior reflections mark the transition toward the pelvic peritoneum over the urinary bladder and rectovesical pouch in the male.
