Description
Dominating the anterior view of the adult male cerebrum, the precentral gyrus is highlighted on the frontal lobe immediately anterior to the central sulcus, with adjacent frontal gyri and intervening sulci defining the cortical convolution pattern across the hemispheres. Superiorly, the medial margins of the frontal lobes approach the interhemispheric fissure, while laterally the opercular region transitions toward the Sylvian (lateral) sulcus. Inferiorly, the brainstem is visible in the midline, continuous with the spinal cord and positioned beneath the cerebral hemispheres. Emphasizing the precentral gyrus in an anterior perspective targets a common teaching and clinical pain point: localizing the primary motor cortex when correlating focal neurologic deficits with surface anatomy.
