Description
Centered over the nasal bridge, the procerus (pyramidalis nasi) occupies the midline glabellar region, arising from the fascia over the nasal bones and the lateral nasal cartilages and inserting superiorly into the skin of the lower forehead between the eyebrows. From the anterior perspective, its fibers run vertically and slightly fan as they blend with the frontalis superiorly and the corrugator supercilii at the medial brow. Surrounding bony landmarks include the frontal bone superiorly, the paired nasal bones inferiorly, and the anterior maxilla and mandible framing the lower face. Midline anatomy dominates. Functionally, the procerus draws the medial eyebrow inferiorly and produces transverse wrinkles over the root of the nose, a common teaching point when distinguishing it from corrugator-driven vertical glabellar lines. That distinction matters in cosmetic injection planning: botulinum toxin placed too inferiorly risks diffusion toward the levator palpebrae superioris and can contribute to eyelid ptosis, while under-treating the procerus leaves persistent nasal bridge creasing.
